Disney Wonder Cruise Day 3 Monday 12/16/13 Key West

I again woke up around 6 am.  We went to breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet.  Have the Mickey waffles, they are the bomb!  We then just hung out waiting for the ships announcement that we could disembark at Key West.

Dan, James and Tyler had to meet in one of the lounges for their excursion.  The White Knuckle Boat Ride.  Basically it was a speed boat that took them on a wild ride.  They ended up completely wet and went back to the ship to shower and change before catching up with us girls later in the day.

Returning soaking wet with the Wonder in the background.

So the girls (all 9 of us) got off the ship, figured out where we were compared to where we wanted to go.  The things on the must do list were to go to the southern most point marker and to have famous "as seen on tv" Kermits Key Lime Pie, on a stick.  We found our way to Duval Street, and started our walk.  Key West is of course a tourist town.  It is very laid back and had that hippy, margarita ville feel about it.  We passed lots of shops, bars and tattoo parlors.  We finally made our way to the marker where we waited our turn to take pictures.

After that we found a bench to sit on, and down the street we saw a man selling fresh coconuts that he would drill a hole in and put a straw in so you could drink the water.  Of course we tried it.  I personally thought that it was gross.  Some of us liked it.  It was one of those, we're on vacation try something new things.  After we finished the coconut water we worked our way back to Duval Street in search of Kermit's.
Renae with her coconut.
Shelbylyn didn't like it.

Sandi loved it, and finished off several of the dislikers coconuts as well.

The group all decided on chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick.  Well everyone except Sierra who had hers in a container and ate it with a fork and without chocolate.  It was delicious!  By far the best key lime pie I have ever had.  After that we spent time looking through shops, buying souvenirs and working our way back to the pier.

Cool old theatre that is now Walgreens.

Returning to the ship, Key West Pier

How sweet!  One of the little touches of Disney.  If only it could be a permanent home!
Once we returned to the ship, we put our purchases away and headed up to Deck 9.  Deck 9 is a great place to hang out.  This is where all the pools are, the quick service food spots and the 24 hour drink station.  There are lots of tables and chairs with great views.  We would always try and find a table or two in the shade and play UNO.  Sometimes there would be a lot of us playing and sometimes just a couple of us.
One time we went on a cruise and an UNO game broke out.  Ok, so maybe every cruise this happens!
The girls found a few characters to have their pictures taken with during the day.  The picture of Delanie I think is actually from yesterday but I have added it here.  Courtney went to the restroom during dinner and found Belle in the hallway visiting with people as they wandered by.  And then Renae and Courtney found Goofy in his Santa costume in the lobby later in the evening.

Santa?  Is that you?

Dinner was again in Animator's Palate, but this time it was the show dinner.  Which means the dining room comes to life.  Everything starts out black and white, the walls of the restaurant , the servers vests, the whole room.

Fitzroy taking dinner orders.

As the meal goes on different pictures on the walls begin to color in.

At one point near the end of dinner all the servers disappear and return in bright colorful vests and with a special guest.  Sorcerer Mickey dances around the room bringing the rest of the room to full color.  It is really quiet a show.

Blurry Fitzroy now in colored vest.

For dinner I ate black truffle pasta purseittes, baked potato and cheddar cheese soup, lemon-thyme marinated chicken and for dessert I had the make your own pie.
Make your own pie.

The show for the evening was Freddy Fusion for the family.  Everyone enjoyed his show and I am still mystified at his magic.  Tonight we went to Wavebands again at 10:15 pm for Match Your Mate.  I will add that most of the things we went to in the evening were adult only shows.  The girls were all happily elsewhere in their age specific clubs enjoying themselves.  Match Your Mate was great fun.  The cruise staff host DJ choose the couple who had been married the longest, the shortest and then a couple somewhere in between.  So on stage ended up a couple married 4 months, 10 years and 30 years.  The game was played like the old tv show The Newlywed Game.  Oh goodness, we laughed and laughed.  The youngest couple ended up winning but my vote was for the oldest.  They were an absolute hoot!

Towel Dinosaur.

After the show Dan went to bed and I joined Shelbylyn at the movie theatre where she was watching The Lone Ranger.  I was able to catch about the last hour.  It was an ok movie.  Following the movie, we went back to the room and found the rest of the Slattery's had already called it a day, which wasn't much of a surprise since it was already 12:45 am!  Late nights and early mornings.  That's what this vacation really ended up being about.  So much fun and just not enough hours to squeeze it all in.

You forgot about the ship's horn sounding during our intense game of Uno and scaring the crap out of us.
