July Adventure Part 2

So Dan & I have vacationed in Las Vegas multiple times in 20 years.  Sometimes it really wasn't a vacation, sometimes it was more of a stopping off point when we would travel from Wyoming to California.  We would always see signs for the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur.  We always talked about going to the show.

So Dan finally had another day off and we bought tickets for the show.  Local discount available should anyone decide to go see the show.

The arena is old, probably had an update in the 80's.  So this is a dinner show, and of course once you enter the doors you are transported back into the times of King Arthur and the Roundtable.  The serving   wenches are already circulating the room offering soda, Coke, Diet Coke or Sprite (because you know they had soda back then).  So I of coarse drink water since I haven't had soda in 4 years.  Avoid the water..it was definitely tap water and tasted like dirt.  Yea, me.

So of course there were no utensils in those times, so don't expect to have any for your dinner either.  Around comes the serving wenches with the first course...dragons blood.  Ok, so it was tomato soup.  YUCK!  This date night is off to a great start...NOT.  So Dan drink both bowls of dragons blood, probably because he loves tomato soup and it's a rare occasion that he gets it.

The main course is distributed in quick fashion.  This place really has the whole process down to a science.  Feeding a few hundred people in my best guess of 20 minutes was really something to watch. So dinner consisted of a whole bird of some sort.  It was bigger than a cornish game hen, but kind of small for a chicken, but it did taste like chicken.  Broccoli, two red potatoes and a biscuit.  So bring the extra napkins because we were ripping into those poor overcooked birds and noshing on potatoes with our hands.  The chicken was dry, the biscuit was dry, the potatoes were dry, the broccoli was acceptable.  Dessert was what looked like a toaster strudel, but honestly not as good.  No choice of filling, everyone gets apple.   So if you are planning on going to this event, don't go for the food.  Go in knowing that it's not going to be great, or pack a bottle of ranch dressing in your bag, and maybe some crystal light for the water to mask the taste.

So what about the show you wonder?  It was great.  We enjoyed cheering for our Knight.  He was a hottie. ;)  The show was a little over an hour long and was quite enjoyable.  Jousting, hand to hand combat.  Pyrotechnics, royal pomp and circumstance.

All in all it was a good night...just not the best dinner experience ever.  I did have a super cute date though!  And really that is all that matters right?
